Christian Counseling for Depression

Depression isn't just sadness. It's the heaviness that makes the morning feel like a mountain, the numbness that drains the color out of things you used to love, the quiet voice that says what's the point. You may still be showing up — to work, to church, to your family — while feeling hollow underneath. If you're a believer, there's often a second layer: I shouldn't feel this way. Where is my faith? You are not weak, and you are not faithless. Some of the most faithful people in Scripture — David, Elijah, even Jesus in Gethsemane — knew the weight of despair.

At Growth Counseling, we treat depression as a whole-person struggle — mind, body, and spirit. Using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), we gently surface the thought patterns that keep the heaviness in place and learn to test them against what's true. Through small, doable steps we rebuild momentum, because depression often lifts through action as much as insight. When grief, trauma, or old wounds are feeding it, EMDR and the Flash Technique help the nervous system finally process what it's been carrying. And throughout, we make room for hope — not as a platitude, but as something rebuilt slowly, in the presence of God and another person who won't look away.

Signs It Might Be Time to Reach Out

A low or empty mood that's lingered more than two weeks. Losing interest in things that used to matter. Sleeping too much or too little. Exhaustion that rest doesn't fix. Trouble concentrating. Pulling away from people. Feeling like a burden, or like things won't get better. Going through the motions of faith while feeling far from God.

If you're having thoughts of harming yourself or that you'd be better off gone, please reach out now — call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). You don't have to carry that alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is depression a sin or a sign of weak faith?

No. Depression is a real condition with physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions — not a verdict on your character or your walk with God. Scripture is full of faithful people who wrestled with despair. Bringing it to a counselor is an act of courage and stewardship, not a failure of faith.

Do you prescribe medication?

Counselors don't prescribe medication, but we'll never tell you to avoid it. For some people therapy alone is enough; for others, medication from a doctor or psychiatrist works alongside counseling. We're glad to coordinate with your prescriber so everyone is working together.

How long before I start to feel better?

Many people notice small shifts within the first 4–8 sessions as we rebuild momentum and challenge the heaviest thoughts. Healing the deeper roots — grief, trauma, long-held beliefs — takes longer, and we'll go at a pace that's right for you.
